Types of Trips

Intrepid Original
The original – and dare we say the best! These are the trips that have made us into one of the world’s leading operators of adventure holidays to Asia, Europe, Middle East and Latin America. Intrepid Originals have something for everyone – variety being the key. Variety in places visited, activities undertaken, people met and even the accommodation and transport we use. Something new and different every day. Some meals and activities are included, while there is also lots of free time to explore and do your own thing.

Key Features:
Group size: Maximum 12 travellers who can be of all ages and from all corners of the world.
Group leader: Yes. An experienced leader accompanies every trip.
Accommodation: Clean and comfortable but simple – variety and character are the hallmarks we seek.
Transport: Anything and everything that moves and adds to the adventure! Usually local transport.
Inclusions (meals, activities, sightseeing etc.) Some inclusions and some free time – great flexibility.
Departure: Departure is guaranteed, subject to booking conditions.
Single supplement: Not available. Single travellers share with someone of the same gender.

Intrepid Basix
Intrepid Basix is a range of adventures that are fun, flexible and affordable – back to basics! The idea is simple: break boundaries, not budgets. We design the fun and adventure in but pull out the inclusions and extras that you may not want. Great for backpackers who want minimum hassle, maximum convenience and the lowest possible price! They are also perfect for the first time traveller who wants independence with the security of a group leader close by. Bottom line? The best value adventures on the planet!

Key Features:
Group size: Maximum 12 travellers who can be of all ages and from all corners of the world.
Group leader: Yes. An experienced leader accompanies every trip.
Accommodation: Usually very simple, sometimes basic. The emphasis is on the journey, not the accommodation. Simple guesthouses, hotels, homestays and National park lodges to name a few.
Transport: You name it – we use it. Usually local transport.
Inclusions (meals, activities, sightseeing etc.): Few inclusions, lots of options, maximum flexibility.
Departure: Departure is guaranteed, subject to booking conditions.
Single supplement: Not available. Single travellers share with someone of the same gender.

Intrepid Premium:
A cut above the regular experience – comfort-wise, that is! Intrepid Premium adventures offer a higher level of comfort and service for those that desire it (and are happy to pay a little more for the pleasure) without compromising intimacy with the local culture. This style has you travelling mostly by private vehicle for greater flexibility and comfort and many meals and sightseeing is included. Using charming hotels and guesthouses with international facilities, Intrepid Premium adventures give you the best of both worlds – comfort and adventure! Group size: Maximum 12 travellers.
Group leader: Yes – the best we have.
Accommodation: Superior but not five star – a little indulgence goes a long way.
Transport: Usually private charter, with occasional local transport.
Inclusions (meals, activities, sightseeing etc.): Many meals, sightseeing and activities are included.
Departure: Departure is guaranteed, subject to booking conditions.
Single supplement: Available. Single travellers can share with someone of the same gender or pay a supplement for a single room.

Exploratory Adventures
Exploratory adventures are for our ‘hard core’ travellers. For those people that revel in the unknown and seek out new adventures at every turn. Every trip is different and unpredictable – such is the nature of remote, exploratory travel. To be honest, Exploratory Adventures are not for everyone. However for some, they offer the opportunity to travel in a way that is rare in these days of mass market tourism. Our itineraries are web-based so as to keep our prices as low as we can, while also keeping the itineraries as up to date as possible.

Key Features:
Group size: Maximum 12 travellers.
Group leader: Yes, usually one of our more experienced leaders who “knows the ropes”. Note that there is a good chance this trip will be as new for the leader as it will be for you.
Accommodation: Often very basic due to remote locations.
Transport: Whatever it takes – sometimes long, often uncomfortable!
Inclusions (meals, activities, sightseeing etc.): No set itinerary as travel in these areas can be quite unpredictable.
Departure: Departure is guaranteed, subject to booking conditions.
Single supplement: Not available. Single travellers share with someone of the same gender.

Independent
Free spirited adventures for the independent traveller, Independent Adventures are the personal alternative or addition to group adventure. They are usually private itineraries – not groups – and often feature things that are virtually impossible to find on your own. Some trips are for those with special interests – food, meditation or history for example. Some are for people who want to add an extension – like a beach break – to their Intrepid trip. Many though are for people who just want to indulge themselves a little and recharge the batteries! For a list of these trips please see our independent page.

Group size: Minimum 1-2 travellers – your own private itinerary.
Group leader: No, however local guides are often included.
Accommodation: Dependant on trip selection – often first class.
Transport: Usually private charter.
Inclusions (meals, activities, sightseeing etc.): This varies according to the trip.
Departure: Departure is guaranteed, subject to booking conditions.
Single supplement: Compulsory

Family Adventures
Intrepid Family Adventures are living proof that children can add a special dimension to travel. On an Intrepid Family Adventure we escape the ho-hum of conventional holidays and throw ourselves into all the fun and adventure that Asia has to offer. While these trips are designed to keep the kids happy and stimulated, the parents are by no means forgotten. Unlike normal child friendly holidays, these trips will be enjoyed as much or more by the parents themselves. Note that our Family Adventures are not baby sitting trips! Both parents and children play an active role in the adventure – and like the best things in life, the more you put in the more you get out!

Key Features:
Group size: Maximum 12 travellers.
Travellers: Maximum 2 children per adult. Children must be in age range 6 – 17 years old. No adult can travel without children.
Group leader: Yes. An experienced leader accompanies every trip.
Accommodation: Comfortable and clean, but simple – lots of variety!
Transport: Usually private charter, with occasional fun local transport alternatives.
Inclusions (meals, activities, sightseeing etc.): A great balance of inclusions and free time!
Departure: Departure is guaranteed, subject to booking conditions.
Single supplement: These trips are designed for families; at least one parent/guardian and one child must travel. Minimum age is 6 years.

Gourmet Traveller
Gourmet Adventures are the food lovers perfect choice! Travellers on Gourmet Adventures make the most of the local cuisine while exploring the countries highlights, culture and environment. From elaborate local banquets to street side stalls, from bustling markets to frenetic kitchens we taste and discover a country, meeting its people and experiencing its culture. Group size: Maximum 12 Travellers.
Group leader: Yes. An experienced leader accompanies every trip.
Accommodation: Clean & comfortable but simple – lots of variety.
Transport: Anything that moves. Usually local transport.
Inclusions (meals, activities, sightseeing etc.): Cooking demonstrations, market visits & many meals are included.
Departure: Guaranteed to depart once your booking is confirmed.
Single supplement: Not available. Single travellers share with someone of the same gender.
