Give us a general overview of your adventure: I went with a college girlfriend to Patagonia. We went did a 5-day trek in the Torres del Paine in Chile, and for another 5 days in El Chalten, Argentina to trek around the Monte Fitz Roy area. We arrived on Dec. 26, and left on Jan 11th.
Was it difficult?: yes Why or why not? It was medium difficult. In the Torres, we backpacked and some days were quit long. In Fitz Roy, we did more day hikes, but often 12-hour days.
Would you recommend this adventure trip to someone else? Why or Why Not? Absolutely. It was beautiful.
What do you wish you would have done differently? I would not have gone during the high season. I would not have spend any time in Punta Arenas.
What kind of advice can you give to other travellers going on this adventure? Go straight to Puerto Natales and don’5 plan to spend any more time than necessary in P. Arenas. Also, while the Moreno Glacier is very touristy, it is worth it. Finally, don’t forget that EVERYTHING is closed on Sundays. So plan to be out treking on those days!
What type of gear did you bring? A small backpack. I rented camping equipment in P. Natales, which was much easier than taking it all down. I brought my own small sleeping bag. I did not bring any kind of day pack, which I deeply regret because it ultimately led to the loss of my camera memory when I left it for 15 minutes in a hostel in El Calafate.
Where is your next big adventure? Why? It’s probably New Zealand, because it is also so beautiful.
Did you travel before or after your adventure? If so, where? I traveled quite a bit in Europe: A summer in Paris, a college semester in Rome, time in Turkey, Spain, Switzerland, Ireland and Morocco. A small amount of time in Algiers.
On your adventure, what person did you most identify with? Lara Croft
