Going Into The Cave

Name: Tracy Foley
Name of the outfitter: Itchyfeet Adventure Tours
Type of Tour: Bus and camping tour, South Western Australia
High end tour, mid-range, or budget? Mid-range

Where did you go? How many days? What was the number of people?
This tour started and ended in Perth, and was a 4-day and 3-night tour around the southern portion of Western Australia. The tour used a small bus to carry the passengers (about 12) and a trailer for all the camping gear and our luggage. Activities included wine and cheese tasting in the Margaret Valley, surfing lessons in the Indian Ocean, walking/climbing in an underground cave, horseback riding, climbing the Gloucester Tree, a tree-top walk (not swings, a suspended boardwalk), visiting the Gap and Natural Bridge, and a spectacular (but challenging!) hike up Bluff Knoll in the Stirling Ranges. We also stopped at various scenic points along the way, such as the Green Pools, Madfish Bay Hippo’s Yawn and Wave Rock. We camped a camp ground one night, a beachside campground another night, and on a sheep station the third night. Camping was done in SWAGS not tents!!

Recommend this company?
Yes

Why or why not?
It’s a small company and they are very dedicated to their customers. The tour was flexible and catered to our needs. We definitely got our money’s worth.

What’s one piece of advice for going on an adventure?
If you’re not down with sleeping out in the open in a swag, this tour is not for your. Also, if you have phobias (heights, horses, ocean, caves, wildlife) you might want to stay away from this tour as well.

What was your guide like? What was his name?
Hugo, the tour guide was amazing. Hands down the BEST tour guide I have ever had. He was flexible, funny, knew everything about the area the tour covered. He didn’t just take us places and run us through the activities, he did them with us, adjusted time based on our interest and did “extras” for us, like stopping at the store to get Guinness, green food coloring and green body paint because St. Patrick’s fell during our tour. He told us about some Aboriginal stories about some of our stops and successfully taught us all how to throw a boomerang.

What was your opinion of the tour company?
A good quality company
