Voyaging deep into the Southern Ocean, this unique journey takes you south to the Antarctic Circle, where you will enter a realm few have ever ventured into. Attempting to travel to a latitude of 66° 33’ south, you find yourself surrounded by the most sublime beauty imaginable, joining your fellow explorers to gaze out across landscapes that few eyes have ever seen. To enrich your experience, MS Fram’s team of expedition staff and lecturers will offer presentations on the history, biology, and geology of Antarctica along the way. Come ashore with your expedition team in for a close-up look at penguin colonies, modern research facilities and historic sites. Marvel at the mountainous scenery and icebergs floating by from the comfort of the ship’s unique Passenger Bridge.
Itinerary
Day 1: Buenos Aires
Arrive in Buenos Aires and stay overnight.
Day 2: Ushuaia
Fly to Ushuaia on the Island of Tierra del Fuego where your voyage begins.
Days 3-4: Drake Passage
Named after Sir Francis Drake, the Drake Passage is one of the worldÂ’s great seaways, connecting the waters of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Infamous and legendary, it is steeped in the history and lore of exploration and discovery and, as your vessel comfortably negotiates its way south, there will be a chance to enjoy further educational lectures en route.
Days 5-11: Antarctica
Once you cross the Antarctic Convergence, you will start to feel the air getting crisper and colder. Antarctic penguins will hunt and play around you and icebergs are an ever present feature of the landscape. Dedicated to scientific research and with no permanent inhabitants, Antarctica is home to millions of penguins and its seas provide sustenance to thousands of whales. Simple words can do little to convey the feeling of being here, looking out upon the vast emptiness of the great white continent. The ice, wind and weather dictate life in Antarctica, as well as your route. Every voyage is unique and your experienced crew will endeavor to make each one an experience of a lifetime. The final choice of landings will be made in the course of the voyage.
Days 12-13: Drake Passage
Leave the White Continent behind and set sail once more for the South American mainland.
Day 14: Ushuaia
JourneyÂ’s end sees you back in the most southerly town on Earth, a fitting end to a spectacular voyage. Fly to Buenos Aires for an overnight stay in this bustling capital city.
Day 15: Buenos Aires
Transfer to the airport for your flight home.
