Awesome Apes Itinerary

This itinerary takes you from arrival in Entebbe, where you don't waste any time in heading directly into wilderness. From the wide variety of apes in Kibale Forest, you will venture into Bwindi Impenetrable Forest to stay at a lodge where silverback gorillas have been known to literally knock on your room's front door. The hikes to see the closely tracked families of gorillas here vary from one to six hours, but they are always worth it. Enjoy a full day of interacting face to face with these peaceful creatures. At Lake Mburo National Park you have the opportunity to ride horses, game drive at night and walk along the safari park.




Detailed Itinerary



Day 1 - Kampala Arrival - Kibale Forest

In the morning after breakfast our safari guide will pick you from your place of stay, for a drive to Kibale. The journey is long, at least half a day of driving. Arrive in the afternoon; relax after the drive, and then overnight accommodation at Ndali Lodge.

Day 2 - Kibale Forest

After breakfast, we shall drive to Kibale Forest National Park, for primate viewing. The activity starts early in the morning. Your guide will help you search for chimpanzees and other primates within the park, as it is host to 13 species of primates. The guide will provide detailed explanations on not only primates, but also on all the forest's fauna and flora, ensuring that your walk is both informative and enjoyable. This walk is excellent for viewing bird life and primates in close quarters. A visit to the Bigodi swamp eco-tourism site is amazing, as you encounter rare and beautiful flora and fauna. Lunch, dinner and overnight accommodation at Ndali Lodge.

Day 3 - Kibale - Bwindi

After an early morning breakfast, proceed to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Arrive at the camp in the afternoon, relax around the camp, with dinner and overnight accommodation at Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp.

Day 4 - Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

There is an early morning entry into a gorilla sanctuary. The rainforest is spectacular, heavily vegetated and dense landscape crisscrossed by numerous animal trails, allowing access for trekkers. This park is best known for the fascinating gorillas, where the time taken and terrain varies according to the movements of these fantastic apes. The thrill of spending time with and observing these gentle giants is a rare and moving adventure that will leave you with long lasting memories of a truly unique experience. The gorillas are shy and peaceful animals and it is an unforgettable experience to watch and photograph them as they interact with each other, return for dinner and overnight accommodation at the Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp.

Day 5 - Bwindi - Lake Mburo

After an early breakfast, you will depart from Bwindi and proceed to Lake Mburo National Park. The game drive will take you along the lakeshore track, and with its own system of game trails and cleared walkways, Lake Mburo has a wider range of activities available to choose from, as there are Horseback Safaris, Night drives, and walking safaris from the Lodge, however after your trek with the Gorillas you may just want to relax and enjoy the peace of this stunning park. Accommodation and dinner provided at Mihingo Lodge.

Day 6 - Lake Mburo - Kampala Departure

Depart from Lake Mburo to Kampala, having a game drive en-route. Have a stopover at the equator for photography and then leisurely continue with your journey home.

Ndali Lodge

Mihingo Lodge

Mihingo Lodge is a peaceful and exclusive retreat adjacent to Lake Mburo National Park . It features ten rooms which are built on wooden platforms with stilts and covered by a thatched roof. Suspended under the thatched roof is a spacious and comfortable tent equipped with en-suite bathrooms with stunning views, including hot and cold running water, showers, and toilets.


Each luxury tented room is nestled on a private piece of the lodge's property, enabling guests to enjoy the tranquil environment in complete seclusion. Placed in varied settings, some rooms are situated in a forest, some with a lake view, and some on rocky outcrops.
