Delhi to Kathmandu Overland

Itinerary

Day 1 Delhi

India's fascinating history is displayed throughout Delhi. Visit a part of the city suspended in time - the crowded, narrow alleyways of Old Delhi overflow with exotic smells and colourful sights. Explore India's largest mosque and stop by a Sikh temple.

Day 2 Agra

The ornate carvings and bejewelled marble of the Taj Mahal are simply breathtaking and may very well be the ultimate monument to love. Get the other side of the story at the impressive Red Fort.

Days 3-5 Orchha

Palaces, temples and cenotaphs rise from the jungle in the crumbling Orchha complex. There's ample time to wander around the village or perhaps try a cooking class.

Day 6 River Ganges Boat Trip

Sail down India's sacred River Ganges on local boats and enjoy delicious meals cooked on the floating kitchen.

Days 7-8 Varanasi

Set on the banks of the Ganges and the ultimate destination for Hindu pilgrims, Varanasi is India's sacred heart. Float down the river at sunrise, past pilgrims absolving their sins on the ghats and take part in a traditional candle ceremony.

Day 9 Lumbini

Travel to the birthplace of Buddha, the town of Lumbini which sits near the beautiful Nepalese border.

Days 10-12 Chitwan National Park

Visit an elephant breeding centre and keep an eye out for deer, rhinos, monkeys and the infamous Nepalese wild chickens.

Days 13-15 Kathmandu

Pass rice terraces, deep gorges, pounding rivers and the snow-capped peaks of the Himalaya en route to Kathmandu. Visit the 'Monkey Temple', the Pashupatinath pires and join the pilgrims at Bodhnath Stupa.
