Borneo Family Adventure

Take the kids on a magical journey to explore the wonders of tropical Sabah. Learn how orangutans are rehabilitated, spot wildlife in steamy jungles and swim among colourful fish. Along the way, make friends with local villagers, try delicious cuisine and enjoy plenty of time to kick back and relax. Round up the family and jump onboard this excellent adventure into the heart of Borneo.

Itinerary

Day 1 Kota Kinabalu

Welcome to Sabah, a place where ancient traditions and exotic wildlife continue to thrive. At the Monsopiad Cultural Village, tour the mystical House of Skulls and learn about ancient legends. The nearby islands are great for snorkelling among a wide variety of colourful fish.

Days 2-4 Kinabatangan Jungle Camp/Homestay

A local homestay provides the opportunity to interact with villagers and learn about their unique way of life and how they contribute to the preservation of the area's ecosystem. Spend a night camping in the jungle - spotting wildlife such as macaques, proboscis monkeys, crocodiles and perhaps even rare wild elephants.

Days 5-6 Sepilok Orangutan Reserve

Learn about nature the fun way at the Sepilok Orangutan Reserve where orphaned orangutans are cared for before being released back into the wild. Take a walk along jungle trails and try to spot these 'men of the forest' in their natural habitat. Later, why not head into Sandakan and check out the local fish market?

Day 7 Kinabalu National Park

Get a taste of mountain life heading into Kinabalu National Park, home to Borneo's highest peak - Mt Kinabalu. Stretch those legs along the walking trails at the mountain's base, taking in the gorgeous views and keeping an eye out for monkeys and colourful birds.

Day 8 Pulau Tiga National Park

Enjoy an entire day of beachside bliss at an idyllic island getaway. Snorkel among over 100 species of fish, spot sea turtles, swim in the clear turquoise waters, visit one of the bubbling mud volcanoes or simply relax on the warm white sand.

Days 9-11 Kota Kinabalu

The final two nights are spent at a seaside guesthouse within easy reach of the city sights. For a last taste of Borneo, choose an adventure - picnic on the nearby island of Dinawan, catch a steam train past water buffaloes and paddy fields to cosy little Papar or take a memorable horse ride along the beach.
