Tazania (MAD) Project - 42 days

Join a group of like-minded volunteers to experience and contribute to daily life in a rural village amongst the foothills of Mt Kilimanjaro, the highest free standing mountain in the world. Tanzania is the largest country in East Africa and one of the most diverse; from the spectacular grasslands of the Serengeti, the glacier-capped peak of Kilimanjaro to the palm fringed beaches of the mystical spice-island of Zanzibar. Split your time between a building project and teaching at a local school. This 42 day project will tackle needs that have been identified by your host community to ensure that your financial and physical investment is sustainable long into the future. Enjoy taking your time to immerse yourself in a unique experience where you can really make a difference to a Tanzanian community.

Itinerary

Days 1-2 Moshi/Rural Project

You project begins with a group meeting in the bustling market town of Moshi. Head off into the foothills of Mt Kilimanjaro to your new rural home. As you travel along take in glimpses of the mountain's snow-capped peak as well as rolling fields of sunflowers and maize. Arriving at the village you'll be greeted by community representatives and will have time to settle in to your accommodation.

Days 3-14 Teaching and Building

Settle in to a routine of building and teaching, with plenty of time in between for a chat with the foreman to pick up some local words.

Days 15-27 Cultural development

As you get to know the community and its needs, there's time to create side projects. Play sports with the kids or join the adults in their cooperative groups, teaching them English or learning traditional dances and weaving.

Days 28-41 Local Expert

In your final weeks you will well and truly become a part of the community. Visit the families of those you've worked alongside, exchange songs and stories and really enjoy the work that goes into teaching and building.

Day 42 Moshi

Sadly, it's time to return to Moshi. Admire your handiwork on the building site as you bid farewell to your new local friends. Memories and friendships found here will last a long time past your time in Tanzania.
