Fiji (MAD) Sport Project - 14 days
Join a group of like-minded volunteers to experience and contribute to daily life in a rural village. Amid the tropical surrounds of the Fijian islands, split your time between contributing to a building project and teaching at a local school. Working alongside local builders, staying in the community and spending time with the kids, you'll become an essential part of the community. This 14-day project will tackle needs that have been identified by your host community to ensure that your financial and physical investment is sustainable long into the future. This is an invaluable opportunity to enjoy a unique experience that really makes a difference to a developing Fijian community.
Itinerary
Day 1 Nadi
Stop by the colourful Sri Siva Subramaniya Swami Temple, set against a backdrop of verdant jungle-clad mountains or perhaps sample a coconut-infused curry from one of Nadi's many great restaurants. Meet the group and leader before heading off onboard a local bus for the rural Fijian village. Set against a backdrop of sugar cane fields, this idyllic countryside is easy to explore on foot. Enjoy free time to get to know the surrounding countryside, including lush gardens and peaceful Hindu temples, or head to the markets to snap up a bargain and sample some Fijian fare.Days 2-13 Teaching & Building
A rotating schedule of building and teaching allows free time to take part in and plan community activities. Get to know fellow team members, locals and the village itself more as the days pass. There are many ways to contribute to the community; part of the adventure is collaborating with locals to determine how and where they need support. Of course it's not all work - play games with cheeky kids, share meals and jokes with the project team and become a valued member of the local community. There may even be a chance to teach village adults English and in return learn about their culture. It's not just about hard work either, there will also be plenty of opportunities to head out beyond the village and discover more of rural Fiji. Sadly, this pacific island adventure has come to an end, so celebrate a great two weeks of achievements over a final dinner with new-found friends. The journey ends on return to the bustle of Nadi.
