Tanzania (MAD) Project - 14 days

Join a group of like-minded volunteers to experience and contribute to daily life in a rural village amongst the foothills of Mt Kilimanjaro, the highest free standing mountain in the world. Tanzania is the largest country in East Africa and one of the most diverse; from the spectacular grasslands of the Serengeti, the glacier-capped peak of Kilimanjaro to the palm fringed beaches of the mystical spice-island of Zanzibar. Split your time between a building project and teaching at a local school. This 14 day project will tackle needs that have been identified by your host community to ensure that your financial and physical investment is sustainable long into the future. Take part in a unique experience where you can really make a difference to a Tanzanian community.

Itinerary

Days 1-2 Moshi/Rural Project

Start the day with a group meeting in the market town of Moshi before heading off to your new rural home. You may be joining forces with group members who have been working in the village for a couple of weeks. Join them to learn the ins and outs of the project and village life.

Days 3-12 Teaching and Building

Get to know your local community - from the teachers, to the board of parents, fellow builders and the smiling local kids. It won't take long before you get into the daily routine of building, teaching and sipping chai tea as you chat and learn Kiswahili from your foreman. Celebrate a successful first week with a trip to Moshi or Arusha for a weekend of well earned rest. The throw yourself back into art classes, building or playing sports with your new local friends (adults and children alike). As the fortnight progresses you'll really feel a part of the community.

Day 14 Moshi

It's time to bid a sad farewell to your new local friends. Look back at the last two weeks with a sense of pride in your building and teaching achievements.
