Gallipoli Pilgrimage

Travel to a land equated with one of the most significant military battles of our time. Be guided through Anzac Cove to the Battlefields, the Nek and the Lone Pine and share the stories of heroism and camaraderie that unfolded among the tragedies of what has become a defining moment in the Australian and New Zealand psyche. Many say that the struggles of Gallipolli marked the birth of a national consciousness among Australians and New Zealanders. This journey provides a great opportunity to pay respect to those who lost their lives and to reflect on what they fought for.

Itinerary

Day 1 Gallipoli Peninsula

Travel to the site that laid the foundations of a national consciousness among Australians and New Zealanders, but was also perceived by the Turks as a defining moment in their own battle for independence. Be guided through Anzac Cove, the Nek and to the Lone Pine and discover the beauty and serenity of a land that saw one of the most horrific battles of modern times. Hear stories of the tragic events that unfolded on 25 April 1915 - a stark contrast to the green, windswept plains that greet visitors today. Walk through the trenches and be transported back to a moment in history that saw repeated feats of heroism and great camaraderie among fellow diggers and the enemy, and defined the true meaning of the Anzac spirit. Read letters sent home from young men fighting a foreign war in a foreign land and pay your respects at the Commonwealth Graveyards. Spend the night in a traditional fishing village, with the town of Canakkale only a short optional ferry ride away across the Dardanelles.

Day 2 Istanbul

Take an optional tour to the historic site of Troy, rediscovered in 1871 by treasure-seeker and amateur archaeologist, Heinrich Schliemann. See a huge replica of the wooden Trojan horse and wander among the ruins that include a paved entrance ramp and massive cut-block walls. Perhaps walk with a guide to gain insight into the myths and legends and the civilizations of the Bronze Age. Journey back to bustling Istanbul where the trip concludes.
