Itinerary
Day 1 Kathmandu
Characterised by bicycles, bustle, sad-faced sacred cows, flapping prayer flags and dotted with temples, Kathmandu is a living entity. Take a stroll through the throng and stop in at a local Newari restaurant.Day 2 Thimphu
Take a short flight and a winding drive to Bhutan's peaceful capital - home to the idea of 'Gross National Happiness'. See the National Library's priceless collection of Buddhist manuscripts, visit the Folk Heritage Museum, stop in at a local nunnery and spend time chatting with the locals of Thimphu.Days 3-4 Punakha
Drive through maple forests during the ascent to the Dochu La Pass, which offers breathtaking views of the Himalaya. Along the way, take short forest strolls, see one of Bhutan's most beautiful monasteries and visit the Punakha Dzong.Day 5 Gangte Region
Cross the Pele Pass to the region of Gangte. Explore the Phobjikha Valley and stay overnight in the lovely Gangte Goemba.Days 6-7 Paro
Explore the ruins of Drukgyel Dzong and the dramatic Rinpung Dzong. Try the region's unusual red rice, tour the National Museum and drive out to beautiful Kyichu Lhakhang. Trek to the miraculously perched 'Tiger’s Nest' monastery - this experience is definitely a trip highlight.Days 8-9 Kathmandu
Return to Kathmandu to visit some of the city's best sites including Durbar Square and Swayambhunath 'Monkey Temple'.Day 10 Bandipur
With views towards Tibet and beyond, Bandipur boasts a lovely location and well-preserved heritage. See traditional houses with slate roofs and carved wooden windows, and experience homestyle meals and hospitality in this delightful town.Day 11 Begnas
Walk the mountain trails for great views, enjoy the stretch of a yoga class or take a boat for a paddle on Lake Begnas.Days 12-13 Pokhara
With its laidback atmosphere, Pokhara is a great place to mingle with the locals. Hike to the World Peace Pagoda or browse for handcrafts at the Tashi Ling Tibetan Village.Days 14-15 Chitwan National Park
Explore the verdant jungle of Chitwan National Park by elephant and on a canoe safari. Keep a keen eye out for Bengal tigers, visit an elephant breeding centre and meet friendly locals on a village tour.Days 16-17 Kathmandu
Back in the capital, seek out further hidden treasures in the bustling alleyways.
