Iquitos Jungle Extension

Itinerary

Day 1 Iquitos/Jungle Lodge

Leave the bustle of the city behind onboard a speedboat bound for the heart of the Amazon. Spend a lazy afternoon spying colourful jungle birds or dangling a line into the piranha filled waters.

Days 2-3 Jungle Lodge

Hike through the steamy jungle to find the snaking Tahuayo River. Along the way, discover some of the many unique plants the Amazon is famous for. Perhaps seek out the Uncaria Tomentosa, or Cat's Claw, a plant believed by many to cure cancer. Keep watch for tiny pygmy marmosets, the world's smallest monkeys, as well as tamarins, black monkeys and thousands of different birds and butterflies. At night get up close to one of the Amazon's most famous and feared insects - the tarantula. Rise early for an adventurous, but rewarding, canoe journey to secluded Lake Juanachi. Celebrate with a picnic amongst the Peruvian jungle, and spot the many brightly coloured toucans and macaws, as well as sloths and monkeys, that call this secluded lakeside oasis home.

Day 4 Jungle Lodge/Iquitos

Head out early to spot macaws, toucans and hawks feeding in the morning light. After breakfast, take to the mighty Amazon River to spy the famed pink dolphins, the world's largest river dolphin. The adventure ends after lunch on the speedboat ride back to Iquitos.
