Road to Zanzibar

Step into an enticing picture of tropical Africa on this inspiring adventure. Cross vast savannah plains where magnificent herds of elephants roam, enjoy warm village welcomes in the lush jungles on the slopes of Mt Kilimanjaro, and see where white sand and palm trees meet the deep blue sea on the Indian Ocean coast. Discover spectacular scenery, superb wildlife and fascinating cultures as you travel across four African countries towards the legendary and exotic spice island of Zanzibar.


Itinerary

Day 1 Nairobi

Welcome to the cosmopolitan capital known to the Masai as the Place of Cool Waters. Check out the city's myriad bars and restaurants or pick up some crafts at the local market. Early birds should explore the impressive National Museum or the Bomas of Kenya, a fascinating cultural centre where resident artists perform tradtional dances and songs.

Days 2-3 Mto Wa Mbu/Karatu

Visit Arusha, a bustling market town nestled in the foothills of an active volcano. Learn about a local community program and experience village life in Mto Wa Mbu.

Days 4-5 Serengeti National Park

It's thrilling to survey this landscape of endless rolling savannah and acacia trees. Go on safari in search of the Serengeti's creatures and camp deep in the bush within earshot of animal calls. Tour a community village program including farming areas, a kindergarten and local homes. For a truly unforgettable experience, opt to take a balloon ride over this unique landscape and observe a stunning sunrise from up high.

Day 6 Ngorongoro Crater/Karatu

Descend into the giant volcanic Ngorongoro Crater to look for its abundant wildlife, and perhaps spy Africa's iconic Big Five. Keep cameras ready for that perfect safari photo.

Day 7 Amani Home/Marangu

Visit an inspirational school for street kids. Ascend Mt Kilimanjaro's tropical slopes to spend an inspiring afternoon among the Chagga villagers who farm coffee and bananas here. Sample local delicacies and gain an insight into village life on a guided tour.

Days 8-9 Usambara Mountains

Relax on these lush, green slopes overlooking the vast Masai Steppe. Spend a day exploring the area, which is renowned for its diverse plant life, before enjoying a picnic lunch at the Irente Farm.

Day 10 Dar es Salaam

On the road to Tanzania's tropical port city, glimpse snow-capped Mt Kilimanjaro rising enigmatically in the distance. Spend the night camping on a balmy beach just outside of the city centre.

Days 11-13 Zanzibar

Discover Africa's famed Spice Island. Marvel at the eclectic architecture along twisting, cobbled streets in Zanzibar's capital, Stone Town. Tour aromatic plantations, smelling cinnamon, vanilla, cloves and ginger. Taste delicious tropical fruits, dine on fragrant seafood curries and laze on beaches shaded by coconut palms.

Day 14 Dar es Salaam

The adventure ends as the ferry from Zanzibar returns to the mainland.
