Itinerary
Days 1-2: USA or Canada/Johannesburg, South Africa
Depart on an overnight flight to Johannesburg. Upon arrival, settle in at your lovely hotel, situated in one of JohannesburgÂ’s most exclusive suburbs. This eveningÂ’s welcome dinner provides a perfect opportunity to meet your fellow travellers and includes a guest speaker, who introduces you to South AfricaÂ’s history.
Day 3: Johannesburg/Maun, Botswana/Okavango Delta
Fly to Maun in Botswana, and transfer to your luxurious eco-safari camp overlooking the Boro River. Situated on a private concession bordering the Moremi Game Reserve, Baines' Camp offers numerous wildlife viewing activities, including day and night game drives, walking safaris with skilled, armed guides and seasonal, motorized boat excursions. You may also sleep under the star-studded African sky; BainesÂ’ four-poster beds are fully mobile.
Days 4-5: Okavango Delta
View countless animal and bird species over the next two days. You may also interact face-to-face with a group of semi-habituated African elephants — a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Amid the beautiful delta, linger over a shaded picnic lunch beneath sausage trees; seasonally, take a water safari aboard a poled mokoro (dugout canoe).
Day 6: Okavango Delta/Chobe National Park, Botswana
Fly to Chobe National Park and the adjacent thatch-roof bungalows at Chobe Chilwero lodge, offering panoramic views across the islands and floodplains. The park, which has four distinct ecosystems, is an ideal place to spot buffalo, hyena, zebra, lion and the occasional cheetah. Between game drives, take a dip in the split-level swimming pool, or book a treatment at the full-service spa.
Day 7: Chobe National Park
Spend the day viewing wildlife on morning and afternoon game drives in open vehicles and on river cruises. The park is home to the largest concentration of elephant in Africa — as well as hippo and antelope. Relax this evening during a tranquil sundowner cruise.
Day 8: Chobe National Park/Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe/Johannesburg
Travel overland — crossing the border to Zimbabwe — for a guided walking tour of Victoria Falls. Later, board a flight to Johannesburg, and spend the afternoon at leisure.
Day 9: Johannesburg/Ngala Private Game Reserve
Wing your way to the sophisticated Ngala Tented Camp, which overlooks a seasonal riverbed. Its luxurious tents — set on raised platforms — are built around existing trees. Meanwhile, mature shade trees form a cool, enveloping canopy over the camp. The swimming pool — mimicking the contours of the riverbank nearby — is a perfect locale for idle afternoon game viewing. Later, take a pre-dinner game drive in search of the prolific “Big Five.”
Days 10-11: Ngala Private Game Reserve
Spend the next two days in pursuit of predators and prey during game drives and bush walks through this wildlife-filled private reserve, which borders renowned Kruger National Park. Both day and night, uncover wildlife with the help of an expert. At an evening sundowner, survey the African landscape with a cocktail in hand. On your final night, attend a farewell dinner.
Day 12: Ngala/Johannesburg/USA or Canada
