Discover Borneo through the lens on a captivating adventure in the company of award-winning wildlife photographer, Nick Garbutt. An expert on Borneo, Nick knows the best places for wildlife photography. Fly from Kota Kinabalu to Lahad Datu and transfer to a rainforest lodge in the Danum Valley.
Days 2-6 Danum Valley Conservation Area
Spend time out and about capturing great wildlife shots, under the expert tuition of Nick, in the Danum Valley Conservation Area. This pristine lowland rainforest is arguably Borneo's premier wildlife location. Head out on walking trails to discover the forest's amazing biodiversity. Keep eyes peeled, and cameras ready, for orangutans, red-leaf monkeys, Bornean gibbons and an incredible array of exotic birdlife. For a different perspective on proceedings, take to the canopy walkway and capture the forest from above. When night falls, head out to get a glimpse into the secretive world of the park's nocturnal creatures. Maybe sight giant flying squirrels, colugo or even a slow loris or western tarsier. Frogs are also common and the resonant honk of the Bornean horned frog is often heard, although tracking one down can be hard. Back at the lodge, spend time learning how to edit, process and catalogue images using photo editing software.
Day 7 Danum Valley/Kota Kinabalu
After six days in the jungle it's time to head back to Lahad Datu and fly onto Kota Kinabalu where this wonderful trip finishes.
