Itinerary
Day 1 Cancun
A haven for sun-worshippers and spring-breakers, Cancun is a party city that buzzes with excitement and decadence. Laze on powdery, white beaches, swim in the warm waters or hit the bars for fresh margaritas.
Day 2 Chichen Itza/Merida
Visit the Mayan pyramids of Chichen Itza. A fusion of religion, architecture and science, it is one of the best examples of Mayan architecture and the highlight is El Castillo (Great Castle), a 91-stepped pyramid known for its amazing carved snakes. After a tour, travel to the Yucatan capital, Merida.
Days 3-4 Palenque
Admire temple walls sculpted with images of gods, rulers and ceremonies on a stroll around these ruins. Later, perhaps opt to cool off at the Agua Azul and Misol-Ha waterfalls.
Days 5-6 San Cristobal de las Casas
Enjoy the cooler climate at San Cristobal de las Casas, a city rich with local culture. Take an optional day trip to San Juan Chamula.
Day 7 Panajachel
Cross the border into Guatemala to reach the lakeside town of Panajachel. Surrounded by volcanoes and villages, the view from the shores of Lago de Atitlan is spectacular. Enjoy Pana's range of optional outdoor activities, from hiking and mountain biking to kayaking and paragliding.
Day 8 San Jorge La Laguna
Make local friends, practise Spanish and share a meal on a homestay in San Jorge.
Days 9-10 Chichicastenango/Antigua
Stop by the highland market at Chichicastenango to pick up last minute souvenirs before travelling to colourful Antigua. Why not stick around to stroll the cobblestone streets of this beautiful city?
